Learn more about Wallace Foundation Inc.
According to Refugee International Liberia is one of the poorest countries in the world. Plagued by civil wars, high unemployment, poverty, illiteracy and corruption, it needs outside help. This is where Wallace Foundation Inc. (WFI), a student-run, tax-exempt, non-profit oragnization, steps in. WFI seeks to give young Liberians, including former ex-combattants and child soldiers, a perspective and a future by sponsoring their education, medical expenses and school supplies via need based scholarships. However, without your help and donations this mission is paralyzed. On that account, YOU are the driving force behind WFI and we welcome and appreciate your support.
Thank you very much,
Director and President
Welcome to the WALLACE FOUNDATION INC. (WFI), a registered charitable, non-profit organization that focuses on promoting the educational growth of Liberia, by providing financial assistance to students in Liberia, West Africa. WFI was founded in January 2006 by Enia Yah Zigbuo, Louise Kou Tolbert and Josef-Stefan Wenzler. The seed of WFI was planted in 2005 when Enia visited her homeland after many years of civil unrest. During her trip it very quickly became apparent that a program such as WFI was needed and would serve a vital role in the battle against illiteracy in Liberia. The foundation is dedicated to the founders father Wallace Nye Zigbuo (see picture to the left) who was born and raised in Liberia. He taught his children these valuable lessons of life, always take the fullest advantage of the opportunities given you, always have compassion on others, never forget where you come from, and always remember those you left behind.
Mission StatementThe Wallace Foundation Inc. activities consist of supporting the most disadvantaged students in Liberia by providing scholarships for their educational progress, which enables them to improve their own quality of life. Scholarships are given to candidates attending or wishing to attend elementary school, high school or college. Awarded amount covers one or more of the following: tuition and fees, food and housing, educational materials and supplies, and medical expenses. Candidates are picked by a lottery system from a pool of eligible applicants (50% male and 50% female) to minimize discrimination based on gender, language, location of residence and other biases that may exist. WFI also accepts new and used goods, such as books, various school materials and supplies, computers and other electronics, and other equipments needed to enhance learning, teaching and training. All goods received are shipped to Liberia to WFI Community Resource Center. By assisting students, WALLACE Foundation Inc. indirectly help the Liberian government with its educational burdens. The activities of this organization in the long run will lessens
- the educational gap between the rich and the poor
- gender discrimination in the country
